🇳🇵 Nepal  Tibet Flood Disaster Appeal 🙏 On Wednesday, 26 August 2026, a severe landslide occurred in the Himalayan region along the Nepal Tibet border. Large amounts of mud, rocks and debris collapsed into the river, triggering catastrophic flooding and causing the loss of dozens of lives, while hundreds of tourists were reportedly missing. From the moment the disaster occurred, Tzu Chi volunteers began preparing for relief efforts and assessing the urgent supplies needed by the affected communities. The Tzu Chi Foundation is currently maintaining close communication with the local authorities and actively planning the next phase of relief operations. For safety reasons, access to the affected areas is currently restricted. We are awaiting instructions from the authorities before entering the disaster zone. Many of the victims' bodies were swept downstream towards the Chitwan area. Chitwan is approximately 170200 km from the affected area. According to reports, the morgue at a hospital in Chitwan has been overwhelmed and has received more than 100 bodies. At present, Tzu Chi volunteers are conducting on-site assessments in Chitwan to prepare for long-term disaster relief and reconstruction efforts.
